Richard A. Eichler Elected as Chairman of the Board

Sam Houston Area Council

Houston, December 11, 2014 – At its annual business meeting, the Board of Directors of the Sam Houston Area Council Boy Scouts of America unanimously elected Richard A. Eichler as Chairman of the Board.  Eichler is the Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the global energy information company Hart Energy.

Eichler brings a wealth of Scouting and business knowledge to this role.  He joined the Sam Houston Area Council as Vice Chair Marketing in 2008 and was responsible for staging the largest celebration in the country honoring the Boy Scouts of America’s 100th anniversary in 2010.

In 2014, Eichler served as vice chairman of the Sam Houston Area Council’s centennial activities.  These activities included over 28,000 youth and adult volunteers participating in the Community Service/Land Stewardship day.  The service day had a goal of producing 100,000 hours of community service work on one day.

Eichler was also co-chair of the Sam Houston Area Council’s centennial celebration at the Hilton of the Americas in October.  At the event the “Leaders of Tomorrow” campaign was announced.  The “Leaders of Tomorrow” campaign is a $40 million fund-raising effort to develop and endow camps for the youth served by the Sam Houston Area Council, of which $17 million has currently been raised.

Eichler, a Scout in his youth, is involved in Scouting with his own son at the unit level. He was a Cubmaster and now is an assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 87 in Spring, Texas.
